Over Rosa

Rosa is a former cmd student. After cmd, she worked for 5 years at Elastique/Wetteloos as a digital creative. She also studied (de)fine art at WKDA for 2 years. After her studies she started the startup A showcase. Now she also works with the MFA XPUB at the Piet Zwart Institute. Here she mostly does workshops, Works with Synthesizers, Radios and sometimes builds websites.

Creative Coding

Creative coding is a way of building websites and apps by using art and creative processes to get a better result. Rosa practises a lot of creative coding in her free time aswell.

Circuit Bending

Rosa also does Circuit bending in her free time. Circuit bending is the Creative manipulation of circuits in electronic devices to create new musical or visual instruments. This way you can make an childrens toy into another completely different instrument that hasn't been heard ever.

Circuit bending started around the '70s. It was the start of the elektronic art / unstable media. The term immediate canvas was used, this means you have no knowledge of what you want to create before you create it.

Circuit bending is comparable to the inspect website button. On there you can also start disabling buttons and removing code to see what it will do to the website. You can look at the deeper parts of the website using the inspector tool.

Rosa told us to not accept the defenition of Status-Quo. Meaning we should do what we want regardless of what other people are doing.

Reflection

Looking back on Rosa's talk i think it wasnt for me. I am not the art type. But that doesn't mean i cant take anything she said to heart. Like not accepting the status Quo and building without thinking.

For my selfimprovement

I dont think i can use a lot of what rosa said in my way of life since it was mostly art related. But i will try to create more things before completely thinking every detail through.
