Human centered design was a really interesting class. In this class we were tasked to build an app for a blind woman. She wanted an app that helped her get dressed properly in the morning. We got to think about it ourselves and i decided to go with an app that lists the compatible other clothes.
The project i built was quite nice and i like the fact that she thought it was something she might actually be able to use if it was worked out just a bit more. At first i really had to get used to working with all these assistive technologies. I installed NVDA for voice assist on my laptop but it took me about 5 hours of use to get used to it. And even after that i needed to make it work on a mobile device. So i also had to get used to the swipe commands. This also posed quite a challenge.
My opinion
I liked the fact that we got to work with actual disabled people so we could have a talk about what their problems were with using the technology that we make. I got some really good insights there. I also like that i now know how to use assistive technologies on mobile and on my laptop. This could help me in the future a lot.
