Educational Goals

For my last project, I set three main goals to achieve. These goals were all about improving my skills and learning new things. Here’s a look at what I aimed for and how I worked towards making them happen.

The First Goal

Learning how to use accessibility in more complex websites or webapps.

The first goal i was a little afraid of at the beginning because the meesterproef we got was quite complicated and not very susceptible to accesibility, But the further we got into the project the better i saw how i was going to make it accessible. The very first thing i did was add names and proper labels to the different buttons and checkboxes i made. I also made sure to make all the buttons i made have a hover state and some a focus state. I did see in the final presentation that some of that data must have gotten lost in the css since the focus states on some elements aren’t present. At the end of the project i ran a lighthouse check on the page and it came back as 100 all around. Now i know this doesnt mean it is completely accessible but it is still good to know that there aren’t any obvious things we forgot.

The Second Goal

Getting more knowledge about some new technological tools

The second goal i almost immediately knew i was going to get with the assignment we got. We got to work with AI and Typesense. This is something i never used. At first we had to install typesense locally and run our application on it. I managed to get that working semi usefully. Then we had to connect to the OBA’s typesense. this taught me how to use typesense and showed me what it is capable of. We also had to write some prompts for the frontend AI. The prompt ended up unused but it was still a nice experienve. i also gained a lot more experience in writing javascript. We wrote a lot of code and connected to the typesense from our app.

The Third Goal

Learning how to work with clients on specific parts of the communication process where i struggle

The last goal i dont think i finished as well as i could’ve. At the end of the meesterproef i looked back to all the times we met with our client and eventhough i learned a lot about how to talk to clients properly, i still didn’t see that the design process we went through was a better one than most people have. Looking back i see now that it was actually quite a nice process. I do believe i learned from talking and meeting with our client, he even said at the end of our presentation that he was super impressed. mostly with how professional we were and how we handled the situation at the end of the project. At the end our client gave a list of things he would still like to see and we sent him a mail with a list of things we would be able to do in this short a timeframe. and things we wouldn’t have the time for. He appreciated this a lot.

The Finish Line

How i look back on all the things i learned and how i grew from these learning goals.

Overall i think i managed to learn a lot and setting these 3 goals made me more conscious about getting them. I am glad i can say that i learned a lot these 6 weeks.

My Reflection

Here on this blog, I'm diving into my thoughts on the past half year in this minor. I'll be sharing what I've learned, how I've grown, and the ups and downs along the way. Join me as I reflect on how these classes have shaped my journey and what I'm taking away from it all.
